Why are private investigators hesitant to try new methods to increase their business?
I completely understand the basic reason for being hesitant, and most of that is related to pride. Nobody likes to admit or acknowledge that their ideas aren’t the right ideas.
When I first started out in my business, I developed a website, including advertising materials such as brochures, handouts, giveaways, business cards, and all of those usual types of things that you would normally think of doing.
I got to thinking that I needed more than just that. I thought it was important that I recognized that I did not know anything about running a business, and that’s where I needed help. I knew how to conduct investigations so that wasn’t a problem. I’ve had wide experiences and lots of training, but I had never been trained on how to run a successful business.
It occurred to me that there are many resources out there that have done well over the years.
There are a lot of people who like sharing what they know, so I contacted 3 people who had run successful private investigative businesses.
I asked them directly if they could help me make my business a better business and grow. I was lucky I found the right people.
The first individual I contacted spent a lot of time with me. At the very start, I sent him all of my advertising materials, my website design, my brochures, my branded pens, business cards, and all of the details I had documented about my business. About two weeks later, he called me and completely destroyed everything I thought was good about my plan.
He had me change virtually everything, and wouldn’t you know?
My business grew like wildfire.
I was taking on more cases than I could handle, I was hiring more people than I could handle, I was making more money than I’d ever made before.
So, I guess my message is; despite how smart you are, there’s always help out there for you, and finding the right help that’s really willing to help you grow is the key to it all.
